this is where all my creative worlds meet
Ever since I can remember, I’ve been making something.
My parents’ old flip-screen camcorder was one of my favorite possessions upon discovering it in elementary school — I fell in love with filming tiny flickers of life, as if they might disappear if I didn’t capture them. When we got a MacBook with iMovie, it felt like the world cracked open.
My childhood was filled with homemade music videos, stop-motions of my American Girl dolls, polymer clay endeavors, door-to-door baked goods, and eventually countless hours filming and editing videos of my life to share on YouTube. Creating wasn’t something I decided to pursue — it was how I moved through the world...I've never known any other way!
What started as DIY videos slowly grew with me — through middle school, high school, college, and adulthood. I never expected it to become what it did. Years of consistency opened doors to brand work, meaningful friendships around the world, and a deep love for encouraging others through storytelling. I’m endlessly grateful for that season.
In college at UNCW, I studied art with a focus on painting and photography. For the first time, what had always felt instinctive was refined and shaped. I learned how to notice light, texture, and emotion with greater intention.
My senior year, I filmed my first wedding. Capturing someone’s vows and the way they look at each other felt like such an honor. I fell in love with telling stories that mattered. From there came brand work — both small local businesses and larger companies. Each project stretched me creatively and taught me how to translate vision into something tangible and effective.
My mission is to create work that feels like something you want to come back to.
In a season of deep grief, I found poetry. Writing became a way to process pain and anchor my hope in Jesus. In this, I learned that creativity was no longer just about capturing or expressing — it was also a means of lamenting and healing.
Alongside digital work, I began creating textured coastal paintings for my Wilmington community, putting my art degree to use 🤠 There's something therapeutic about working with your hands, and it still grounds me today. Another creative outlet that serves a unique purpose!
In 2023, Soph’s Beach House grew from that same longing to work with my hands. I dreamed of developing my own brand out of a love for the coast, slow living, and creating something physical that carries feeling. A different medium with the same heart.
All of this to say, for years, I tried to put myself in one box. Filmmaker. YouTuber. Photographer. Artist. Entrepreneur.
But I’ve come to realize I wasn’t made to create just one kind of work. I believe God made me to notice beauty and respond to it. To tell stories in whatever form He places in front of me. Film, photography, paint, scent, words...whatever it may be. My mission is to create work that feels like something you want to come back to. To appreciate God's beauty, tell stories, and encourage others.
Cheers to a lifetime of creating ☀️
